Antique Teppo (japanese Black Powder And Matchlock Rifle) From The Late Edo Period
"Antique Teppo" (Japanese black powder and matchlock rifle) from the beginning of the late Edo period (19th century). Never disassembled, in its period patina.
The Teppo is muzzle-loading, with a firing hole on top of the deck. The fuse (consisting of a hemp cord impregnated with saltpeter), fixed to the striker, makes it possible to ignite the charge of black powder and to propel projectiles made of paper (incendiary), stone, lead and iron. The Teppo had an effective firing range of 50 meters and a maximum range of 500 meters. Good condition.
