"Portrait Signed Auguste Jouve, His Son Paul?"
LITTLE NUGGET FROM THE PAINTER AUGUSTE JOUVE. RARE IN THE AUCTION ROOM, JOUVE IS HOWEVER PRESENT AT THE RIJKSMUSEUM WITH A STILL LIFE WITH FLOWERS BUT ALSO AT THE VAN GOGH MUSEUM IN AMSTERDAM FOR THE PORTRAIT OF HIS WIFE, MRS JOUVE. THE VAN GOGH MUSEUM HAVING SELECTED KNOWLEDGE AND CONTEMPORARIES OF THE FAMOUS PAINTER, IT IS FINALLY NOT SURPRISING THAT JOUVE, A PAINTER BORN IN CAVAILLON, WAS ABLE TO VISIT VAN GOGH DURING HIS PERIOD IN ARLES-ST REMY DE PROVENCE. AUGUSTE JOUVE WHO WAS ESSENTIALLY INTERESTED IN PHOTOGRAPHY HAS NOT PAINTED AS MANY CANVAS AS HIS CONTEMPORARIES. WHICH LEADS ME TO THINK THIS IS THE PORTRAIT OF HIS SON, PAUL. IT IS LITTLE PROBABLE THAT THIS IS A COMMISSION FOR ANOTHER FAMILY, THIS PORTRAIT IS NOT PAINTED ON CANVAS. LATE XIX, PAUL WAS PAINTED WHEN WAS 8, IN 1886. DIMENSIONS WITH FRAME 39 X 34 cm
