Ga Scheid: Exceptional Large Snuff Box In Silver Vermeil Guilloché & Enamelled. E-mail

Large enamelled silver box by the famous goldsmith Georg Adam Scheid.

The box is round and opens with hinges.
The lid as well as the box are guilloché with a pattern of circular ripples strewn with polka dots and covered with a translucent gray enamel slightly tinged with blue. This rare enamel color is beautiful and very elegant. The whole forms a radiant pattern reflecting the light in a superb play of twinkling.
The edge of the lid is underlined by a wide thread of slightly translucent pearly white enamel through which appears a guillochage of wavelets different from the center of the lid.

The gray-blue enamel of the box is framed by two nets of opaque white enamel.

The inside of the box is vermeil and the bottom is plain.

Georg Adam Scheid is a famous German goldsmith born in 1838, died in 1921, who began his career in the famous town of Pforzheim, nicknamed the city of gold because of its production of precious goldsmithery. In 1858 he moved to Vienna where he teamed up with the great goldsmith Michael Markowitsch. Georg Adam Scheid acquired great notoriety for the quality and preciousness of his works, in particular those comprising enamel on silver or gold guilloché.


This box is remarkable, both for its dimensions, which are rarely found for objects in enamelled silver, and for the rare color of its enamels and the goldsmith who made it, the famous and sought-after Georg Adam Scheid.
