Mrs Winfield Sifton, born Jean Gazlay Donaldson married in the second marriage Captain Winfield Sifton of Canadian origin and son of the Canadian Minister of the Interior at the time. The portrait of Mrs Winfield Sifton and her husband in uniform was commissioned and painted in 1916 in London.

Mrs. Winfield Sifton was known for her taste for luxury and sumptuous receptions in the London of the 1920's. She was named the best dressed woman in Europe in 1923. Her last husband was Paul Dubonnet, owner of the spirits of the same name. She died in Paris in 1956 in her private hotel.

Philip de Laszlo (1869 - 1937) Born in 1869 in Budapest, Hungary, from a family of tailors, he studied painting in Budapest, Munich and Paris at the Cours Julian. After having seduced the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy by a style of painting crunching, the personality of the subject of a lively and fast movement recalls his contemporary Boldini. He left for England to join the woman who would become his wife Lucy Madeline Guiness despite the reluctance of her family. He was quickly considered a worthy successor to the great English portraitists: Sir Thomas Lawrence, Romney, Thomas Gainsborough .... All the English aristocracy wanted to be painted by this painter, he was invited to the White House to paint President Theodore Roosevelt.
