Max Claudet, born August 18, 1840 in Fécamp (Seine-Maritime) and died May 28, 1893 in Salins-les-Bains (Jura), was a French sculptor and ceramist, active in Salins-les-Bains. His wife introduced him to ceramics through her contacts with the earthenware workshops established in Salins since 1857. He developed his own techniques by working with the pottery of Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne and then created many enamelled pieces. (dishes, enamelled plates, decorative objects, vases) which earned him the qualifier of "Palissy Comtois". Gradually, he made his own molds and created decorative plates and plates halfway between statuary art (modeling of bas-reliefs) and ceramics (enamelled clay). His production brings him closer to the art of Bernard Palissy, a 16th century ceramist whose works are exhibited at the National Museum of the Renaissance in Ecouen.
