"Grekoff Elie "the Scorpion" Tapestry Canvas After Aubusson 1960-1970"
“Canvas reproducing the tapestry produced in Aubusson by GREKOFF Elie (1914-1985) entitled “Le Scorpion”. Elie Greekoff who joined Fernand Léger's academy very early represents the scorpion in a chaotic way probably inspired by his stay in the French countryside after the Second World War. Elie Grekoff was a French artist of Russian origin, born in Saratov in the province of Don. During the Russian Revolution his family moved to France. Since his childhood Grekoff dreamed of being a painter, he entered the Académie Fernand Léger. Very quickly Léger recognizes his potential. In 1937 Grekoff created his first mural. For the International Exhibition in Paris, he was commissioned to decorate a large roof panel. After the war, Grekoff stood out for his tapestry work: almost all of Grekoff's tapestries were woven in the Aubusson workshops. Until 1962 Grekoff's compositions were largely made up of human themes: young men, young girls and somewhat melancholy children in Arcadian settings. After 1962, Grekoff left Paris for the Angevin countryside. The people in his tapestries are replaced by nature trees, insects, birds and skies. » In good used condition (year 60-70).
