Beautiful 15/16th century mortar, cast bronze, Northern Italy, (Carinthia, or Tyrol), cylindrical body reinforced with four nose-shaped ribs, (typical of mortars from this region), strong flared edge. Original pestle, The object has served well: its prolonged use has caused a slight bulge on base, evenly distributed between the buttresses. Good condition, beautiful dark patina, mortar rings like a bell.
