Alfred Bastien, 1873-1955, Belgian post-impressionist painter of compositions with characters, landscapes, seascapes, war and genre scenes, still lifes and portraits. Orientalist. He was a pupil of Jean Delvin at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and of Jean Portaels in Brussels. Godecharle Prize in 1897. He undertook a long trip to many countries in Europe, North Africa (1897), Congo, India, China and Japan from where he sent many works. A founding member of Le Sillon and a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium, he was a professor and then director of the Brussels Academy. Works in the Museums of Antwerp, Ghent, Philadelphia and San Francisco. Artist listed in Bénézit, Arto and Piron (with copies of signatures). Listed by Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, Mayer, etc...
The pictorial layer is in excellent original condition.
Never cleaned and a little dirty (varnished yellowed), it has no repaints or repairs of any kind.
It is in a 1920s frame with some minor normal wear.
