Louis Chalon was a versatile artist, practicing as a painter, illustrator, goldsmith and sculptor. He studied with Jules-Joseph Lefebvre and Boulanger. His classically inspired paintings were exhibited in the salons of the Société des Artistes Français in Paris from 1880 to 1911.
As an illustrator, Louis Chalon produced numerous illustrations for magazines such as La Vie Parisienne, L'Illustration and Figaro Illustre, as well as for books by renowned writers such as François Rabelais, Giovanni Boccaccio and Honoré de Balzac.
