Impressive slit drum called "garamut" collected in the Murik lakes area in Papua New Guinea. The slit drum is mainly used as a means of communication, but can also be used to rhythm traditional ceremonies or "singsing". Exceptional piece of very large size entirely sculpted with tribal designs evoking ancestors, totemic plants and animals. Presence of characters typical of the region of the mouth of the Sepik River throughout. Very dense wood with traces of use and age and paint. Excellent sounds. Very discreet lack in the bottom.
