"Joseph Hurard Port South Of France (marseille, Martigues) Oil On Panel Around 1940 Provence"
This work by Joseph Hurard (1887-1986) presents a very beautiful view of a port in Provence in the 1930s/40s by Joseph Hurard. It is an oil on panel of large dimensions, with many moving figures near the quays and port buildings. This artist, born in Avignon, is part of the Provencal school, a pupil of Pierre Grivolas, close to the School of Fine Arts in Avignon and by the same to his elders Auguste Chabaud and Lina Bill. He is recognized as having been one of the best painters of his time in his region. The work has a slight crack at the top left which is completely restorable.
