French school of the 19th century Oil on canvas 24 x 32 cm (37 x 45 cm with the frame) Mark of the canvas merchant "Binant" (Active in Paris between 1820 and 1859) In the 1830s/1850s, romantic painters were inspired by Dutch art. Here we have a fine example of a copy from this era by a French painter. This still life, with a rich composition, makes it possible to multiply exercises in style by copying fruits (cherries, lemon, strawberries), different materials such as metal with the compass and the pepper shaker, and fabrics, drapes and ribbons, without forgetting the classic oyster, whose material is particularly difficult to render, a branch, a leaf and a small butterfly!
