"After The Brescianino Brothers Active 1515-1525 The Holy Family, 19th Century Painting"
The BRESCIANINO brothers, Tuscan painters active between 1515 and 1525, oil on canvas from the 19th century (relining) "The Holy Family, Elisabeth and the young St John the Baptist", in a 17th century frame in black and gold lacquered wood (dimensions with the frame: 160x191 cm) according to an analysis by Mr J FRANCK, the artist borrowed elements from Raphaël's "Great Holy Family" kept in the Louvre, in particular the cradle and the saint located at the top left, next to the Musician Angel and to Leonardo Vinci for the head of the Virgin, quote from that of the "Virgin of the Rocks" in the Paris and London versions. These borrowings from Leonardo and Raphael would make one think of the workshop of the Brescianino Brothers, Tuscan painters active around 1515-1525 who created devotional paintings from various elements taken from compositions painted by the great masters of their time. Since our painting dates from the 19th century (perhaps quite early), it could be a copy after a lost Brescianino
