Pewter Wine Pitcher (tin) - Mantes, 18th Century

Large PITCHER with pewter shoulder, plinth foot, straight heel goblet and molded S-shaped thumb.
Control hallmark: C crowned / MANTE / 17(--).
Hallmark of Pierre DELAVIGNE received master in Mantes in 1715: hammer crowned DPLP
Height: 26.8 cm.
MANTES, First half of the 18th century.

This master settled in Pontoise from 1717 to 1727, when he returned to Mantes.
On his hallmark the second P (initial of Pontoise) certifies that he did not immediately change the hallmark he used during his activity in Pontoise. The reading of the incomplete control mark therefore does not make it possible to specify the dating of this pitcher manufactured between 1715 and 1717 or after 1727.
Very good condition
These pitchers, often the central theme of pewter collections, were the wine measures of the 'Old regime.
