Object description :

"Yipwon Cult Figure, Papua New Guinea, Oceanic Art, Tribal Art, Sculpture"
Papuan sculpture called "Yipwon" collected in the village of Sevenbuck in Papua New Guinea. The Yipwon is one of the most stylized and symbolic objects of the Sepik River area. It represents a two-dimensional character with ribs, its heart located in the central part and the head. Large specimens like this are placed in the Haus Tambaran (men's house) and are closely related to the warrior world. Its other name, wanleg (from the English "one leg") in Pidgin English designates all the figures of this style that one encounters in the region of the Korewori river. Very finely crafted specimen with a beautiful patina. Sold with a presentation base.
