P., Editions Willeb, 1945, 1 vol. in-4° (306 x 213) in sheets held by a silk cord in a cardboard portfolio titled on the upper cover, 48 pp. Slightly dusty wallet, very nice copy. Text by Louis Guillaume. First edition printed in 288 numbered copies on superior white helio paper by Barjon (N°103). Reproductions of animal drawings by Gaston Chopard on all pages, sometimes 2 per page, including 8 in color. It was attached to our copy 5 original drawings monogrammed by the artist, dimensions: 128 x 100, mounted on canson. Namely: - A rooster: Watercolor and gouache. - A lying deer: Black pencil. - Another elongated deer: Crayon in black. - An unidentified bird: Crayon in black. - A horse: Crayon in black with light heightening of gray gouache. Gaston-Albert CHOPARD (1883-1942), "painter, engraver and decorator (Ec. Fr.). He gave the best of himself in the art of wood engraving, which he worked with wood chisels and with large carpenter's gouges. The choice of his rather coarse tools, allowed him to make engravings with dominant black and white, with simplified sculptural forms. His animals, in particular lions, monkeys and bears, are defined according to simple plans , going to the essential character of each of them. He also painted and engraved landscapes, figures and flowers. Member of the Salon d'Automne, exhibitor of the Salon de la Société Nationale, from 1900 to 1912, as well as of the Independents since 1921 and of the Tuileries in 1934 and 1935.
