"Etablissements Maison - Ferronnerie d'Art, Les Riceys (Aube) - were founded in 1860 by Louis-Ernest Maison (1841-1920), a blacksmith from a family of artistic locksmiths active since 1749. They were rebuilt after World War I to their current location on the site of a former flour mill. Part of the workshops was replaced by spans in sheds around 1950. The site was served by a CDA rail branch. Louis Maison largely contributed to imposing the vogue for wrought iron in architecture as well as in private homes. His works spread to Troyes (gates of the prefecture, the courthouse, the Savings Bank, the choir of the cathedral), in France (ironwork of the town halls of Sens and Roubaix, banisters of the staircase d'honneur of the Grand Palais in Paris) and abroad (gate of the government palace in Dakar). Alongside artistic locksmithing, the company produces metal constructions of all kinds: frames, attics, floors, bridges, halls and markets, awnings, greenhouses, winter gardens... Louis Maison accumulates distinctions: first prize at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1878, gold medals at the Universal Exhibitions of 1889 and 1900, at the Moscow (1891), Chicago (1893), Saint-Louis (1904), Milan (1906) and London (1908) exhibitions ), at exhibitions in Reims, Nancy, Dijon, Orléans, Troyes, etc... The riceton company becomes a supplier to the State and the City of Paris. In 1920, Jean Moutard, grandson of the founder, took over. Restoration activity is gradually replacing creative activity. In 1936, the company repaired the Invalides dome in Paris. The same year, it began the rehabilitation of the balconies, gates and fountains of Place Stanislas in Nancy, work which was completed in 1978. In 1960, the company had around sixty employees. Jacques Moutard, then Jean-Noël Moutard ensure the direction until today. In 1978, the workshops restored the statue of Vercingetorix in Alise-Sainte-Reine (Côte d'Or). From 1982 to 1986, they participated in the repair of the Statue of Liberty in New York. In 2005, the company operated under the name Serrurerie Moutard and worked 80% for historical monuments. » (sources: La BONNETERIE and other local image industries, Fouinos Blog).
