"Anglo-catalan Psalter Very Luxurious Fac-simile Moleiro Barcelona Limited Edition"
Psautier Anglo-Catalan / Anglo-Catalan Psalter / Psalterium Glasatum. Barcelona, Manuel Moleiro, 2004, 1 vol. large folio (480 x 332 mm) bound in full brown shagreen, spine with 6 raised bands, gilt title, boxes in richly gilded red shagreen with Napoleon's numerals, gilt roulette around the covers, all gilt edges, 356 pp, preserved in a leather case. In a perfect state. Very deluxe facsimile, limited edition, of the original Psalter made in the 13th and 14th centuries and kept at the National Library of France in Paris under the symbol "Latin 8846". It includes more than 140 fascinating illuminations and numerous initials enriched with gold. It is considered by the publisher to be the first printed edition or "quasi-original". It was printed in 987 copies, numbered and certified before a notary, here N ° 34, (see certificate signed by his hand in-fine), it was also printed 77 copies numbered in Roman numerals intended for the library of the publisher and legal deposit. The publisher has made a facsimile respecting the manuscript as realistically as possible. The publisher's slogan: “The Art of Perfection”! “The illustration of this book was executed at two different times: - Canterbury, around 1200: 184 pages. The manuscript begins with what Leroquais called the prologue to the Psalter: 8 large full-page paintings. There follow 52 extraordinary illuminations the width of the page (approx. 15 x 32 cm) at the beginning of each psalm. - Catalonia, around 1340: from page 185 there are 46 illuminations framed with a brightly colored net. in this part we find greater iconographic freedom both in the typological interpretation of the psalms and of the prophecies of the New Testament. The manuscript was part of the treasure of the library of Jean de Berry; it was probably one of the 78 manuscripts sold in 1511 by Charles de Croy to the first female bibliophile in history, Margaret of Austria, governess of the Netherlands. When it arrived in Paris, the manuscript was still bound in green velvet, which makes it possible to follow it in the various inventories of Margaret of Austria. He passed, with most of his books, to his niece Marie of Hungary, sister of Charles V. After the death of the Queen, the manuscript was transferred to the general fund of the Library of Burgundy, in Brussels. Finally, the manuscript arrived at the Paris library in 1796. The binding with the figures of Napoleon I was executed in 1809.” (Publisher's catalogue). The color commentary volume (296 pp.) written by Nigel Morgan, Rosa Alcoy and Klaus Reinhardt (English version) is attached. Given the care and energy given to the design of its works, the publisher offers them at very high prices. Second-hand copies rarely appear on the market.
