P., René Kieffer, 1920, 1 vol. in-4°, full purple morocco, spine with 5 bands, front cover illustrated with a mosaic gargoyle (Le Stryge), second cover with a mosaic rosette, threaded cuts, frame of double mosaic gilt fillet at the corners on the contreplats, all edges gilded including the gutter and the edge at the bottom gilded on witnesses, covers and spine preserved, lined slipcase (DUBOIS D'ENGHIEN and DOOMS), 163 pp., (1) f. Spine very slightly faded, superb copy in a very beautiful mosaic binding by the Belgian bookbinder and gilder Dubois d'Enghien and Dooms. 21 full-page etchings by Charles Jouas. Text printed in Gothic in a frame in the cathedral. Edition of 260 numbered copies, 1/180 on vellum (n° 248). The text celebrates three of the oldest buildings in Paris: Notre-Dame, Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois and Saint-Merry. Our copy is embellished at the beginning of the book with an original full-page watercolor by the artist, representing two doves resting on the Stryge, this watercolor inspired the motif of the upper cover of the binding.
