Depending on the source, the beginnings of ornamental aquarium keeping, involving the selection of species, date back to 905 AD or the 12th century.
Similarly, the date of creation of the "bowl" or fish aquarium is subject to several dates. For some, it would be in 1369 with the launch of a porcelain factory that produced large containers to hold goldfish by the Chinese emperor Hongwu.
According to other sources, the Chinese "vase" or aquarium was invented by the Ming Dynasty in 1547.
