In Arthur Calame's landscapes, we recognize both the influence of his father Alexandre, and the more northern influence of Oswald Achenbach, who was his teacher at the academy from Dusseldorf. But if his father favored the subjects of mountains, lakes, studies of trees, Arthur produced mainly views of Venice and southern coastal landscapes (Côte d'Azur, Ligurian coast, Amalfi coast), as well as some views of the coasts Bretons and Basques. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1874 to 1897.
