Wartan Mahokian (1869-1937) was born in Constantinople in Turkey where he learned oil painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul He specialized in seascapes At the age of 24 he moved to Paris for his career and he studied impressionist paintings In 1997 he moved to Marseille and continued to paint its calm seas and starry nights before returning definitively to Armenia in 1910 until his death in 1937 His technique consists of superimposing colors His works are preserved in many museums around the world The painting offered for sale is an oil on canvas which measures 39 by 61 centimeters without the frame
