"The Arrival Of A Steamer In A Port, Watercolor And Gouache"
Large and magnificent watercolor dated 1919 representing the arrival of a liner in a port certainly in a northern sea. The atmosphere of the port filled with smoke and vapors is beautifully rendered with the bustle of small boats and tugs surrounding the majestic vessel. We can see the other liners in the mist. We must remember that in 1919, the war has just ended, and that seeing civilian passenger traffic again is a real celebration, after four terrible years. It is difficult to feel the joy and the pride of the populations of the time in front of this spectacle. The artist perfectly captured this joy found in the effervescence of the port. The signature is difficult to decipher, seems to indicate F. Banks. Contemporary frame in the spirit of the beginning of the century.
