He enrolled at the Beaux-Arts in his hometown and then in 1921, at those of Paris where he was a pupil of Jean Boucher. He stayed there only a short time, preferring to work independently, guided by Charles Despiau. Very influenced by Maillol, he first practiced direct carving on wood and stone. He exhibited from 1923 at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants. He obtained a first travel grant in 1934 which allowed him to stay in Algeria. He received the gold medal in 1937 at the International Exhibition in Paris. Winner and scholarship holder of French Equatorial Africa in 1948, he traveled first to Algeria, then to Black Africa and brought back sketches and photographs which inspired him with sculptures, further enriching his already considerable work. In 1954 he obtained the price of Algeria. He had already exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists subjects of Orientalist inspiration.
