This is a high quality wool rug decorated with floral scrollwork, foliage, birds and quadrupeds on a midnight blue background. The border is also decorated with flowers with bird motifs on an ivory background. The velvet is silky lambswool with flowers surrounded by silk on a cotton foundation. The city of Nain, located 200 kilometers east of Isfahan and at the western tip of the Dasht-e-Kavir desert, is famous for the quality of its carpets.
