"Joseph-marie Vien Le Jeune (attributed) : "young Empire Girl With Pearls""
Joseph-Marie Vien Le Jeune (1761-1848) attributed to: “Young Empire girl with pearls”, oil on oval canvas 60 X 46 cm, mounted in an Empire frame with oval view 80 X 65 cm with worn gilding. Originally a shorter oval, the canvas was enlarged by a crescent moon at the top to fit this frame. It is certainly on this occasion that the "restorer" camouflaged under a coarse repaint to the right of the signature (see the last photo before restoration) an inscription which must have been "son" to pass it off as a work by the more highly rated father. ! Our lovely young lady has since passed through the hands of a real restorer who has revealed all the delicacy of her skin tones and the charm of her First Empire outfit that the photos can barely convey. Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone. Other photos and many other objects in our shops in Pau and Biarritz and on our website: galerielhoste.com.
