Object description :

"Gaston Thiery (1922-2013) "the Roman Bridge, V. 1960" Creuse, Crozant School, Detroy Student,"
Interesting oil on canvas by Gaston Thiery representing a Roman bridge in autumn, around 1960, signed lower right + marked on the back "Roman Bridge" Format without frame 38x46cm Provenance: Artist's studio sale It is indeed a a pretty and interesting canvas by Thiery, already precocious, around 1957/1960, when he frequented Léon Detroy. His touch is then post-impressionist, quite broad, very different from his canvases painted between 1970 and his death where his touch will become smaller but above all much more detailed. In addition here his palette is extremely colorful with warm dominants, yellows, ochres, oranges, browns. I haven't been able to locate the place precisely, but most likely in Creuse or northern Haute-Vienne where the painter liked to go. Gaston Thiery was born in Lille, after classical studies in France and Belgium, he entered the Beaux-Arts in a decoration workshop. In 1940, facing the war, he took refuge in Creuse in Fresselines. There he will meet the Creuse valley but especially Léon Detroy who will continue to motivate the painter; moreover during this period Thiery practices a painting very influenced by the master of the place. Considered as the successor of the school of Crozant, he will see his works distributed in Europe, Japan, the United States and they are now part of many public and private collections. He exhibited in the greatest Parisian galleries his painting of landscape and nature. From 1965 requested by Paul ANDRAUD Maître Lissier in Aubusson, he executed his first tapestry cartoons. This adventure will last 30 years and will see the production of more than 100 boxes. Accomplished artist, invested in the life of his village, he marked the Creuse Valley from 1940 to 2013. There are several books on this artist including an important one, which I do not have, which references a large part of his works, this one may be there... This canvas is in perfect condition, delivered in a period gray patina frame or without, as desired. Authentic guarantee
