A Japanese soft and valuable boxwood netsuke depicting a young naked woman kneeling with towel and bucket in the onsen bath 温泉, the Japanese “thermal baths”.Finely sculpted with an excellent patina and soft touch.
Himotoshi (holes that allow thread to pass through) large and small on the back.
The Japanese consider “communion in nakedness” important as it is capable of breaking down barriers and introducing new people in the relaxed and familiar atmosphere of the onsen.
