"Samarkand Wool Carpet, China And Russia, Circa 1960"
Wool Samarkand rug, product of 20th century Russian craftsmanship. Its pattern is inspired by Russian-Chinese culture, as the province of Samarkand is located on the border of these two great countries and on the Silk Road. In the past, caravanners using this route bought these woolen carpets woven by local craftsmen during the long winters, to sell them on the Samarkand market. These carpets are woven according to tradition, in pure wool from the region of the same name, where the breeding of the HETIAN sheep is specific to this area.
