Very good quality bronze, carving, patina The original sculpture "Sapho" made of marble, in 1852, is exhibited at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. About James PRADIER (1790-1852) James Pradier was born in Geneva in 1790, he won the Prix de Rome and quickly established himself among the young sculptors who counted. In 1814, following his prize, he joined the French Academy in Rome. This experience will mark all his work, he will be inspired all his life by themes inspired by mythology and ancient stories but with an emphasis on figures, especially female ones. About La fonderie d'Art Susse: The two Susse brothers, Nicolas and Victor, began by marketing small bronzes in their paper mill in the Passage des Panoramas in Paris. We find traces of their new activity as art founders in 1839, they publish a small catalog of their production. It was their first major contract with a renowned sculptor, James Pradier, who launched their business in 1841.
