Saddle cloth in hand-knotted wool and leather yoke, Central Asia, early 20th century, 1900 to 1920. Beautiful piece of ethnology, a true artifact of the nomadic culture of the Uzbek or Turkmen rider peoples.
This carpet is placed on the wooden saddle to comfort and dress the whole.
Two pieces in embroidered leather, one to fit the saddle pommel, the other adapting to the cantle.
The edge of the carpet is fringed and accompanied by a leather braid to reinforce the whole.
Below: Two wide strap loops. The leather pieces are padded with thick felt for the comfort of the rider.
The carpet has decorations of the star of Medes, stylized flowers, sticks, decorations typical of these regions.
The colors are fresh, the velvet almost impeccable which proves the little use of this carpet more intended for parties;
It is quite obvious that the wooden saddle was placed on the horse's back after the laying of other rectangular and thick carpets made of wool or felt to protect the animal's back.
It is unfortunate to see saddle pads, which are not saddle pads and which are for the most part Chouval fronts (storage bag).
