The box is in flamed mahogany, the crest on the lid is devoid of any inscription, the interior is sheathed in green velvet. A small key ensures the closure.
The whole is blued. The carcass is entirely engraved with scrolls and various patterns. It is numbered 19347 and bears the initials "LF" surmounted by the broken pistol.
The barrel is pierced with six chambers placed symmetrically around a cylindrical channel in which the axis of the barrel is engaged. It is perfectly indexed.
The barrel with fixed front sight is engraved on the top "Invon E. Lefaucheux - Breveté SGDG (Paris)". The butt plates are of varnished walnut, retained by screws secured in finely engraved metal eyelets. The butt cap has a ring.
The set is in very good condition and has retained all of its blue finish.
Eugène Lefaucheux: born in Paris on September 14, 1832, died in Cannes on March 24, 1892. In 1851, he met Samuel Colt at the London exhibition. He filed his first patent on April 15, 1854 (patent 019380) which gave birth to his famous “model 54” pinfire revolver, followed by the Mle 1858 and later the Mle 1870 adopted by the Navy on February 10, 1870.
