Pair Of Putti Pickers Around 1780

Description:
Chiseled bronze with brown patina, white marble.
This pair of statues represents two intoxicated putti celebrating the harvest. Their heads are crowned with vines, they each grasp a grape cluster and one of them carries a libation cup.
They are seated on a stump symbolized as a seat, the naturalistic ground is strewn with grapes and leaves. The marble plinth is drawn on an architectural model, drum-shaped on a square plinth and carried by four striated and scrolled buttresses.
The quality of the bronze work is of a lively and subtly exaggerated design specific to the old regime, we will notice the chubby faces, the languid gestures of the putti, the face frozen with drink of one of the two. The carving is exceptionally fine, the closed eyes of one of the putti are representative.
The smallest detail is represented without weakness.
The initials of the bronzier or owner "JG" are engraved under a statue in the part placed on the terrace, therefore invisible without dismantling.
