Carl Saltzmann (1847, Berlin - 1923, Potsdam) was a German marine and landscape painter.
He was a pupil of Hermann Eschke, then studied in Düsseldorf, and, after traveling through the Netherlands and Italy, settled in Berlin.
In 1878-1880 he accompanied Prince Henry of Prussia on his trip around the world. The watercolor that we offer dates from this trip.
He later accompanied the German Emperor on his visit to Saint Petersburg and Norway.
Among his paintings resulting from these trips, we can cite "Corvette Prince Adalbert in the Strait of Magellan" (1883, Breslau Museum), "In the Pacific Ocean" (1888, German Emperor), and "Arrival of the Hohenzollern at Kronstadt " ( Emperor of Russia).
The National Gallery, Berlin, has two paintings by him.
In 1888 Saltzmann was awarded the Grand Gold Medal in Berlin, and in 1896 he was made a professor at the Academy.
