Le Rêve, a lyrical drama, premiered on June 18, 1891 at the Opéra-Comique. This is Bruneau's first foray into the world of Zola: as with L'Attaque du Moulin two years later, it is by interposed librettist, since the work is adapted by Louis Gallet. It is even an adaptation that goes quite far, the opéra-comique indeed including the painting of the miracle, which serves precisely as an illustration for the poster: Angelique, after having received the extreme unction of the Bishop Jean d'Hautecœur, father of her lover, gets up and can marry the one she loves. A last painting, written but not represented, showed Angélique falling dead after having received her husband's first kiss at the exit of the church...
