"Regency Commode Louis XV Stamped Nicolas Berthelmi - Violette - Ca 1740"
Regency style chest of drawers stamped by the cabinetmaker Nicolas Berthelmi dating from the beginning of the Louis XV period. Two "NB" stamps for Nicolas Berthelmi are on the uprights under the marble. Nicolas Berthelmi worked in his studio rue du Faubourg Saint Antoine since 1731. His talent quickly allowed him to reach the rank of master cabinetmaker which he obtained in Paris in 1735. This chest of drawers in violet veneer wood opens with 3 drawers spread over three rows. Its deep varnish reveals a beautiful and complex crimping work with intertwined chevrons. The gilded bronze ornamentation is elegant and precisely carved. Finally, it is topped with a Sarrancolin Ilhet marble, known as Sarrancolin Versailles, molded which is added.
