Satyress playing with a child satyr Terracotta medallion Diam. : 37 cm. FRENCH SCHOOL of the 19th century after Claude Michel dit Clodion (1738-1814) Original work related: -Claude Michel dit Clodion, Satyresse playing with a child satyr, on either side of a garland having surrounded by a bull's eye, 1782, stucco bas-relief, H. 202 x W.410 cm, Paris, Louvre Museum.
This medallion reproduces the right part of an element of the decor originally located in the main courtyard of the Hôtel de Bourbon-Condé in Paris, built from 1780.
The subject, much appreciated by the public, is declined throughout the 19th century in numerous versions in terracotta, plaster, marble and bronze. Unsigned, stamp on the back and number, beautiful patina of use.
