"Buffet Bar In Rio Rosewood, Attributed To J.leleu, Art Deco - 1940"
Remarkable buffet bar, Art Deco, attributed to the famous French designer and decorator Jules-Emile Leleu (1883-1961). Known for having fitted out ocean liners, trains, residences and presidential palaces in the last century. It opens, on the top and on the front, with a double flap equipped with a functional lock with key and entrance inlaid in brass. The sycamore interior, flanked by original mercury mirrors in perfect condition, consists of a recessed concave part and two small side drawers highlighted with Amaranth fillets. The bar function takes on its full meaning through three brass galleries initially provided for storing glasses. Below, this sideboard has two Rio rosewood doors, with lock, key and entrance, inlaid with diamonds, lemon tree fillets, floral motifs in mother-of-pearl and various woods. The interior of this lower part has a central niche and two adjustable shelves, mounted on racks, decorated with friezes on their edges. Two tapered columns at the bottom constitute the front pillars. They are topped with brass rings and end with ornate feet covered with plaques. The lower crosspiece is slightly cut. This exceptional piece of furniture will appeal for its originality, its multiple functions and the unalterable quality of its wood species. ******** Period: 1940.
