"Dukes Of Rohan-chabot, Silver Dish, 31 Cm, Aucoc, Paris, 1880-1910, Potius Mori Quam Foedari"
Elegant round meat dish in sterling silver , dating from the end of the nineteenth century. It is manufactured by Aucoc in Paris. Engraved with the arms of the Dukes of Rohan-Chabot and their motto "Potius mori quam foedari" (Rather die than fail), it was probably commissioned for Alain-Charles-Louis de Rohan-Chabot (Paris, 1844-Paris, 1914), prince of Léon, then, on the death of his father, in 1893, 11th duke of Rohan. A French officer and politician, he was castellan of Josselin and deputy of Morbihan from 1876 to 1914. The dish has a diameter of 31 centimeters and weighs 820 grams.
