Gustave Brion was a 19th century French artist and illustrator, born in Rothau in Alsace in 1824, after studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Strasbourg, Gustave Brion began his career as a cartoonist for newspapers and publications.
His artistic career began as a wood engraver, then he worked as an illustrator for various magazines and newspapers.
He is particularly known for illustrating Jules Verne's novels, including "Journey to the Center of the Earth".
Brion also worked on illustrations for other major writers of his day, such as Alexandre Dumas and Victor Hugo.
In addition to his work as an illustrator, he also created oil paintings, mainly genre scenes and landscapes.
Gustave Brion died in Paris in 1877, at the age of 54.
His works are now kept in museums across France, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Strasbourg and the National Library of France.
