Maurice André created tapestry cartoons from 1943, when he stayed in Aubusson and met Marcel Gromaire and Jean Lurçat. His style is primarily figurative even if it is quite stylized. In 1949 he joined the APCT (Association of Painters-Cartonniers of Tapestries) which brings together the big names of the artists who wrote the Woven Adventure in the 20th century. In 1958, he received the Grand Prix International de Création for the French Pavilion at the Brussels exhibition. He carries out numerous commissions, both private and institutional. Note: Monumental Works for the Council of Europe (1955) and, in 1964, for the Casino de Cannes. In this tapestry, the graphic style is similar to the tapestries of Mathieu Matégot from the same period.
