Our Armchairs measure 87 cm in height, 40 cm in depth and 58 cm in length. The Seat Height is 42 cm They are Very Comfortable. Among the Romans, we called a curule chair any seat that could be easily transported: the folding, folding, X-shaped seats were curule chairs. This word was then kept to designate the ivory seat where the senators and the great magistrates of the Roman Republic sat. The curule chair was very fashionable during the Renaissance and then at the end of the 13th century during the Directory and then during the first Empire. The curule seat (in Latin sella curulis, from currus, "chariot") is a symbol of power in ancient Rome, on which the Roman magistrates and promagistrates possessing the imperium (power to coerce and punish) could sit, c i.e. consuls, dictators, masters of cavalry, praetors, and curule aediles. According to Plutarch, only the exercise of a magistracy giving the right to a curule chair allowed a client to free himself from the tutelage of his patron1.
