"Henri Jannot Still Life"
Still life painted by Henri Jannot (1909-2004) representing a bouquet of roses and a mirror resting on a Napoleon III box, a bird reflected in the mirror, two books and a candlestick with an extinguished candle. His admiration for 17th century still life painting, aroused by the shock of visiting the exhibition at the Orangerie of painters of reality in 1934, suggests that the objects represented make him a vanity. Henri Jannot, after studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Lucien Simon in particular, formed the Forces Nouvelles group with Georges Rohner, Roger Humblot, Jean Lasne and Pierre Tal Coat. The painting is on its original canvas, framed in a gilded wooden frame and signed lower right. Unframed, it measures 65x50 cm.
