"Trompe l'Oeuil Paintings"
Set of 2 so-called Trompe L'oeuil paintings depicting a small bird on a wooden plank. These Trompe L'Oeuil (deception of the eye) paintings were already made in the 16th century and developed in to a genre in the 17th century. The objective was to paint materials and structures in such a way the eye of the beholder was deceived to think they were real. On these paintings the frame is painted and as such not real.
