"Important Tabriz Carpet In Wool, Iran, 19th Century"
Magnificent Tabriz carpet in lambswool on cotton foundation dating from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, originally from western Iran. Its decoration is similar to that of the Ardebil carpet exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Distinguished by its multi-lobed ivory rosette, with a turquoise heart, surrounded by majestic decorated petals and placed on a marine field highlighted in fuchsia, with multicolored plant interlacings in convolutions. Two pendants in the shape of oil lamps guide us towards the ends of the carpet, where there are spandrels taking up a quarter of the imposing central decoration. An ivory counter-border with bluish branches and another with flowers and "chis" frame the main fuchsia border, where ivory medallions and navy cartouches adorned with polychrome cruciform floral shapes are cut out.
