This profile of a girl with a headband in her hair was exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1864: 'No 2636 – Portrait of Mlle M. F…; medallion, plaster.' Avoiding the metropolis, François-René Guétrot lived and worked in Niort, a town in the west of France, about halfway between Nantes and Bordeaux, nevertheless he exhibited in Paris and was widely celebrated especially for his bas-reliefs in plaster.
