Object description :

"Bidjar Wool Rug, Shah Period, Circa 1940"
Important wool Bidjar carpet, from the Shah period around 1940, woven on cotton warps and Kork wool which proves its age. The crenellated hexagonal field is ruby red in color and serves as a support for a central midnight blue medallion, as well as floral pendants in the shape of a large diamond encrusted with polychrome "Herati" motifs. Four Prussian blue spandrels with stems and branches, adorned with diamonds and flowers, frame the whole. The carpet also has three borders, all three rich in garlands of multicolored flowers, flanked by a wide ivory outer border with floral crenellations.
