In addition to his dramatic mythological and allegorical groups Laurent Marqueste specialised in portrait busts of notables. In reference to our bust one needs to mention those of the composer, Camille Saint-Saëns (Philharmonie de Paris, Musée de la Musique), and particularly the bust of the medical doctor Paul Poirer (Granville, Basse-Normandie), both cast by Claude Valsuani. This is a previously unrecorded work by Marqueste.
