Barrau exhibited the plaster of Salomé at the Salon of 1882, and a marble version of the subject at the Salon of 1889, both of which have been lost. This terra cotta therefore remains the only known version of an important work by the sculptor from Carcassonne. For two other figures by Barrau with very similar faces to Salomé see the Allegory of the Town of Le Mans on the facade of the Hôtel-de-Ville in Paris, and one of the figures which make up the group The Gunner of Narbonne, in the Garden of the Palace of Work in Narbonne.
