"Violin Ceremonial Table In Blackened Pear Tree, Boulle Style, Napoleon III Period - Mid-19th Century"
Ceremonial violin table in blackened pear wood entirely inlaid in the Boulle style, named after André-Charles BOULLE, master cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV. The tray has a marquetry of volutes, scrolls and flowers in finely chiseled brass, on a background of tortoiseshell, underlined by a bronze rod around the edge. The curved belt, marrying the lines of the top, opens in front by a large drawer equipped with a functional original lock with key. This drawer is surrounded by a bronze rod and has in its center an important entrance with the effigy of the Sun King. The sides of this table are a reminder of the facade with similar sculptures and marquetry surrounded by shaped baguettes. The set rests on four curved legs. Usually adorned with espagnolette, we find here rare integral sculptures of cherubs, in a seated position, with their legs crossed. This base, dressed in gadrooned sticks, ends in bronze clogs. Restored according to the rules of the art, this ceremonial table with rich ornamentation is a unique piece of furniture that will appeal to lovers of French art furniture. ******** Period: Mid-nineteenth Excellent condition.
